*It’s less about sympathy for Palestinians and more about what the cause does for the believer. A free hit of virtue. The rush of moral superiority wrapped in a borrowed identity. Maybe even a flicker of transcendence — all without the burden of practical responsibility or moral complexity. It’s a revealing psychological posture, and one that increasingly defines the progressive Left.*
Rather than the BBC be 'punished' I'd like to see this can of worms be opened.
"We need to talk about Glastonbury". That should be the next Panorama episode.
There usually comes a point of introspection. Where people see or watch something and question whether what they've held to be true, is so. A bit like this sketch:
But why hasn't it happened yet? What would it take for these middle class, white, globalist, 'liberal' authoritarians, with their virtue signalling and luxury beliefs to reach that point?
Was there no read-across from the Nova festival to Glastonbury? The two couldn't have been more similar. The 'liberal self-loathing' new religion is a recipe for disaster. Nothing good comes from it. How can it be stopped?
What would they need to see to question what they are doing? What they are supporting? What they are normalizing? What they are calling for.
Today's cartoon by Blower in the Telegraph is excellent - Summer of Love vs Summer of Hate.
I agree completely, David — especially about the introspection. It’s astonishing that the Nova massacre didn’t provoke even a flicker of doubt in these circles. “Are we the baddies?” indeed. That Blower cartoon is brutal and brilliant — thanks for sharing it.
Another excellent piece, thank you. The indoctrination of the young in the UK takes many forms and Iran is pulling a lot of strings, via Hamas. These muddle-headed, easily 'influenced' and often overly entitled people cannot see the hypocrisy of their protest taking place in a securely walled, safe, protected environment when so many other young people, also at a music festival, died horrifically at the brutal hands of Hamas.
Thank you, Jan — you’ve captured the tragic irony with real clarity. That contrast between safety and savagery, between slogans and reality, sits at the heart of the piece.
We’ve reached a point where chanting for someone’s death counts as virtue signalling. That should scare people more than it seems to. Great post.
Thanks — yes, it surprises me more people aren’t alarmed by what’s going on here.
Excellent analysis. This is it in a nutshell:

Thanks!
Eloquently explained and very insightful.

Can they not see how far they have travelled? Everything is inverted!

Incredibly well written, very powerful words. Thank you for helping me to understand why these people act the way they do. You have amazing insight.
It is very unnerving and extremely worrying what ( was allowed to ) happened at Glastonbury.
I do hope it won’t go unpunished- for legal reasons.
The thought ‘ History sharpening its teeth’ comes to mind , it’s chilling.
Thanks so much, Anne. That phrase — “history sharpening its teeth” — captures it chillingly well.
